The Family for the Education of the Roma Children: On-line conference

Education is a key area for Roma integration, pointed by EU Framework for National Strategies up to 2020, because:

– Roma children are lagging behind their non-Roma peers on all educational indicators;

– The proportion of Roma early school-leavers is disproportionately high compared with the general population.

According to the Bulgarian Strategy for Roma Integration 10.7% of Roma boys and 20.1% girls do not enrol in school.

The family is a major factor in child education. Involvement of Roma families, especially Roma women, has a significant effect to keep children in school and improve their educational achievements.

The final conference of the Project „Empowerment of Roma Children for Roma Children Education” aims to:

• Present the project and its results;
• Present two successful models for family support – Family Group Conferences and School for Parents;
• Discuss possible challenges and solutions concerning Roma children education.
